Details: The City of South San Francisco’s Centennial Celebration continues on Saturday, March 29th with a Multicultural Event being held at the Municipal Services Building, 33, Arroyo Drive. The evening will begin in the Atrium at 5:15 with no-host cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. A buffet dinner will follow at 6:30, featuring food from a wide variety of local restaurants famous for their respective ethnic cuisines. Entertainment will feature performers reflecting South San Francisco’s rich cultural heritage. Tickets are $40.00 per person and will go on sale February 1st through the Recreation and Community Services Department. Meihua Zhuang Session Content

Meihua Zhuang (Plum Blossom Poles) is an ancient martial art spread primarily in the rural areas of Hebei, Henan and Shandong provinces of Northern China. It is characterized by five static postures as the basis as well as movements comprised of rapid foot steps and quick movements. The basic training methods look simple and relaxed, however the internals are very subtle and hard, it helps build up the right movement and the breath required in the real fighting.

In today, Meihua Zhuang has become a holistic and effective way for self defense and health improvement. It was originated as a highly effective real battlefield art common in the north China from as early as Ming dynasty. It also integrates physical training for the internals of human body, relaxing and strengthening the mind and body, gaining speed and attaining advanced martial and cognitive-perceptual skills.

The style of Meihuazhuang is rare and very few masters of meihuazhuang teach publicly in the major urban centres of China. The member of Beijing Meihuazhuang Committee, Grandmaster Sui Yunjiang, the disciple of the famous Beijing Meihuazhuang Grandmaster Han Qichang, has been teaching Meihua Zhuang publicly in Beijing since the early 1980s.

Seminar I -- Wind and Fire Wheels Dates/Times: (5 sessions) Sunday, Oct. 27 (3:30-5:00pm) Monday, Oct. 28 through Thursday, Oct. 31 (8:30-9:30am) Cost: $125 Description: This five-day intensive study will teach the use of this unique double weapon of the bagua system. The wind and fire wheels are circular blades with sharp daggers jutting to the sides. A rare and unusual weapon seldom seen outside of China.

Description: This second part of a two-part seminar series teaches students the form created by five close friends -- all bagua, taiji, or xing-yi masters. This form combines strengths of each style into a powerful fighting form.
